Why Product Hunt still matters

Despite what some people say, Product Hunt is still the best single-day traffic source for new products. A successful launch can bring 3,000-10,000 visitors and hundreds of signups in 24 hours.

Pre-launch (2-4 weeks before)

Build your audience first

Don't launch cold. Use GetLaunchDay to build a waitlist of at least 200 people before you go live. These will be your Day 1 supporters.

Find a hunter

A hunter with 1,000+ followers can boost your visibility. Reach out 2 weeks before with a personalized message about why your product matters.

Prepare your assets

  • **Thumbnail** — 240x240px, clean, recognizable at small sizes
  • **Gallery images** — 5 screenshots showing your best features
  • **Tagline** — Under 60 characters, benefit-focused
  • **First comment** — Your story in 200-300 words
  • Launch day

    Timing

Launch at 12:01 AM PT. This gives you the full 24 hours on the front page.

    Mobilize your community

Email your waitlist at launch. Ask for support, upvotes, and honest feedback. Don't ask for upvotes directly (it violates PH rules) — instead, say "check out our launch and let us know what you think."

    Engage with every comment

Reply to every single comment within 30 minutes. Being responsive shows you care and keeps your product visible in the feed.

Post a launch thread on Twitter/X. Share on LinkedIn. Post in relevant communities. Every piece of traffic helps.

    Post-launch

    Follow up with visitors

Everyone who signed up during the PH launch gets a personalized email within 24 hours.

    Write a retrospective

Share your results publicly. The PH community loves transparency. This content often performs better than the launch itself.

    Use GetLaunchDay's PH Kit

GetLaunchDay generates all PH assets for you: thumbnail specs, tagline variations, first comment template, and a launch-day checklist.
